An online studio, run from one
room in Fresno, California.

The Lewis House of Music is online only. Lessons are taught live over Google Meet from a single teaching room, to students at their own pianos across the United States. There's no building to visit — the studio is wherever Otha Lewis and a student sit down to play.

CHAPTER II

What a lesson looks like online.

Once your camera is placed so I can see your hands and the keys, a lesson online feels much like one across a room. The hour is spent playing and listening — not troubleshooting technology.

We read from the same score on screen and mark it up together. If you'd like, the lesson is recorded so you can practise against what we found. Each week ends with written notes and a clear assignment.

Before the first lesson

The trade card on the Home page lists exactly what you need at your end — an instrument, a camera, and a stable connection.

A headset, a better microphone, or a second camera angle all help — but none of them are needed to begin.

CHAPTER III

A studio, not just a standing appointment.

The week has more in it than your hour. Enrolling means joining a roster of students who keep company with one another, even at a distance.

I Office Hours

A live group hour, Thursdays at 5:00 PM Pacific (12:00 AM your time). Drop in, listen, ask anything.

II Recitals

Twice a year the studio gathers online to perform. Playing is invited, never required.

III The bench

Beginners from nothing and returners picking up something left unfinished — you're joining a bench, not a queue.

Kept honest by the work around it

Alongside teaching, Otha Lewis writes, prepares editions, and does musicological research. That other work → keeps the studio's repertoire grounded.

CHAPTER IV

See the room before you decide.

Start with half an hour at the piano.
